桃花扇（英文）

　　In 1699， after more than ten years' work on three different drafts， Kung Shang-jen finally produced The Peach Blossom Fan ， a traditional opera in forty scenes. The heroine ofthe play， Li Hsiang chun， was a famous courtesan in Nanking at the end of the Ming dynasty. Her love for Hou Chaotsung， the hero of the drama， and many of the characters and incidents connected with their romance were for the most part based on fact. And Kung Shang-jen used these events and characters to present the rise and fall of the southern Ming regime in 1644 and 1645.

　　Quincy Sheh （She Kun-shan 1904-1956），was educated in America in his early years. He attended Phillips Academy （1920-1923） and Bowdoin College （1923-1927）， from which he graduated in 1927 with honors. After he came back to China in 1927， he taught successively at Zhejiang University （1928-1933）， Peking Normal ' University （1933-1935）， Peking University （1933-1936）， Furen University（1933-1935），Xibei University（1937-1939）， Zhejian University （1939-1949），Hangchow University （1948-1952）， Zhejiang Normal College （1952.2-1952.9）， Xiamen University （1952-1956）， and others. A celebrated professorsince l933， he's an erudite scholar and versatile teacher. He's eminently learned in English andAmerican literature， and the courses he gave at college cover a wide range， including fiction， poetry，drama， writing， phonetics， He had published quite a few academic papers and translations， such as Robert Herrick and His Poetry （1934）， Emily Dickinson（1935）， The Character of Shakespeare （1942）， Chinese Characters in English （1942）， Some Problems in Middle School English Teaching （1940）， The Peach Blossom Fan （part， 1963）， The Golden Fish （1955）.Wang Xianzhong（1928-），student of Professor She at Hangchow University and Zhejiang Normal College（1949-1952）， graduated from Zhejiang Normal College in　1952， and is now professor of English at Zhe-jiang University.
