Hoy， former chair of the department of educationaladministration， associate dean of academic affairs， anddistinguished professor at Rutgers University， is now the NoviceFawcett Chair in Educational Administration at The Ohio StateUniversity. Professor Hoy received his B. A. from Lock Haven StateCollege in 1959 and his D. Ed. from The Pennsylvania StateUniversity in 1965. His primary research interests are theory andresearch in administration， the sociology of organizations， and thesocial psychology of administration. In 1973， he received theLindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching from RutgersUniversity; in 1987， he was given the Alumni Award for ProfessionalResearch from the Graduate School of Education; in 1991， hereceived the Excellence in Education Award from The PennsylvaniaState University; and in 1992， he was given the MeritoriousResearch Award from the Eastern Educational Research Association.He is past secretary-treasurer of the National Conference ofProfessors of Educational Administration （NCPEA） and is pastpresident of the University Council for Educational Administration（UCEA）. He currently serves on the editorial boards of theEducational Administration Quarterly， Journal of EducationalAdministration， the McGill Journal of Education， and the Journal ofResearch and Development in Education. Professor Hoy is coauthorwith Professors D. J. Willower and T. L. Eidell of The School andPupil Control Ideology （1967）， with Patrick Forsyth of EffectiveSupervision： Theory into Practice （1986）， and with John Tarter andRobert Kottkamp， Open Schools-Healthy Schools： MeasuringOrganizational Climate （1991）. He has been described by theAustralian Institute of Educational Administration as one of "theworld's most widely read authors in the field of EducationalAdministration."
